4:30 pm Talk and book launch Berlin Maps
At 4:30 pm we will celebrate the release of the 2nd edition of Berlin Maps. Authors Sebastian Felix Ernst and Jonas Tratz will present the book and tell you about Berlin’s extraordinary features: artificial mountains and walled island, underground and enclaves, geology and morphology, and many more.
Berlin Maps cartographs special, strange or undiscovered phenomena of Berlin and its surroundings. In 18 chapters, natural, man-made and immaterial phenomena of Berlin are put under the microscope: Underworlds and enclaves, islands and infrastructure, artificial lakes and intricate villages, and much more. Berlin’s chequered history, with quite contrasting political driving forces, has produced a variety of spatial features that have not yet been overhauled, especially on the city’s outskirts. The authors, architects Jonas Tratz and Sebastian Felix Ernst, therefore deliberately look at Berlin’s edges as well, illustrating architectural geography, political upheavals, scenic spaces, and curiosities in detailed general maps and individual drawings.
